Zoe Harding

Neptunea Ring
Zoe’s platinum design references both the spiralling contours of distant galaxies and the Neptunea gastropod shell, abstracted into a wearable form. A sizeable yet relatively light weight framework, pave set on the outer edge with diamonds – to visually reference distant stars and galaxies - sweeps from the lowest part of the shank, over the hand and curving into a perfect spiral. This bold cocktail ring has a futuristic feel. With minimal metal it celebrates platinum’s special properties, such as its inherent strength, in a design that may be less successful in other materials.
The basis for Zoe’s design is how she imagined the Neptunea shell, a type of gastropod washed up on the shore, its protective outer shell worn away over time, leaving only the stronger framework – the most elegant spiral form. The Latin name Neptunea is also used to describe the planet Neptune. Parallels between the perfect spirals found in shells and galaxies beyond our solar system are referenced by the continuous line of colourless diamonds, reminding us of this limitless journey: From the depths of the ocean to distant galaxies.
Zoe’s career since graduating in 2003 has taken many twists and turns. From four years designing costume jewellery for Vivienne Westwood in London to undertaking private commissions including luxury pieces for her own company, Zoe Harding Jewellery. Zoe is currently freelancing for a leading commercial company as well as designing and making bespoke jewellery for sale in galleries, stores and selling exhibitions. In addition to this, Zoe teaches jewellery bench and design skills in London.
