Luke Rose

‘Icon’ necklace
Luke’s necklace is made entirely in platinum featuring black diamonds totalling 20ct. His stunning piece also features 18 diamond set “eyelets”, each one grain set with 10 x 0.015ct fine white diamonds. The eyelets are cast and back holed to reduce both weight and wastage, the lower ones set into a knife edge framework, which looks delicate but is actually quite strong. These are laced together with a fine strand of black diamond briolettes finished at the ends with 5mm briolettes which flow down towards the cleavage. The final touch is a 2.1ct rose cut black diamond set into the clasp. The circular components of the necklace represent eyelets and the curves of the framework echo the curves found in old whalebone corsets.
Luke drew his first inspiration for the piece whilst watching the announcement of the Oscar nominees. With a love of fashion and jewellery he daydreamed about one of his own pieces being worn on the red carpet. His idea was to create a piece that would evoke all the glamour and decadence of Hollywood actresses and the Oscars ceremony - a statement of luxury. He looked back to the golden age of film – Garbo, Monroe and the fashions and glamour of that period; also the work of Horst, best known for his photographs of actresses and fashion taken whilst working for Vogue in the 30’s and 40’s. Arguably Horst’s most iconic picture is of the “Mainbocher Corset”, a photograph which inspired Luke to create a piece of jewellery that was laced together and with the idea that it echo’s the dress it is worn with.
Luke graduated from Sir John Cass in 1996 after winning the David Morris award for diamond mounting. His first job was as a jeweller for Jess James in Soho where he became head of design and production. After gaining further experience working for Australian designer Melissa Harris in Sydney, he started his own company mainly working to commission for his fast growing client list.
