Tempus Pendant

Laura’s pendant incorporates an intricate scrolling design and watch dial features, framing a striking two layered spinning pattern, to create a hypnotic optical illusion.   Accents of black diamonds and an interchangeable, indicolite tourmaline are also featured.

Laura’s desire was to create a piece in platinum that is concept driven and design led. Her piece reflects on the idea of Tempus Fugit, which is Latin for ‘Time Flees’. Her inspiration started in the British Museum’s watch and clock room as she loves the richness of the decoration and the intricate nature of the details in the time pieces, which has inspired the antique feel of the pendant. The laser cut inner section takes inspiration from optical illusions from the Op Art period. Laura’s aim was to create a contrast to the antique inspired elements of the piece, giving it a contemporary edge.  A lovely decorative pattern in its static mode, creates a spiralling optical illusion when the central piece is spun.  The movement is an important part of the piece to reflect back on the idea that time is moving and to create a fun and fantastical experience.

Laura gained a BA honours in Jewellery Design at Central St Martins in 2008 and in the same year set up her own business as a designer-maker.  During this time she has won several awards and has exhibited her work at prestigious shows and exhibitions which included Heart and Design at Christies, New Designers Selection and One Year On. Laura has also designed for jewellery brands through collaborations and freelancing.  Through her freelance work she got a taste for fine jewellery which is where Laura has decided to focus her career.  In 2010 she was appointed Head Designer for PureJewels.
