Anthony Roussel

Auctus Wrist-wear
Anthony combined the strength of platinum with the fragility of birch wood to design this beautiful item which functions as a sculptural piece of wrist-wear. Cold metal juxtaposed against the warmness of the birch wood, an organic material, gives this piece a distinguished uniqueness. By criss-crossing thin, yet strong ribbons of metal, a platinum frame is constructed. The negative spaces between the metal function as windows where wooden disks slot into ledges to complete the 3D piece. What is achieved is a light weight and innovatively large scale structure for a platinum based design. With 50grams of platinum and a large surface area, it is a technical feat to realise such a design. Cognac diamonds are set into the extremities of the frame acting like spot lights illuminating the facades of a building.
Anthony’s inspiration came from the patterns and textures of palm trees. His inspirations often come from engineering and architecture.
Antony launched his practice in the summer of 2007 after graduating from London Metropolitan University with a degree in Jewellery. It was his aim to create collectable pieces incorporating wood as the focus of the designs, drawing attention to notions of preciousness by using an organic material. Although his work is born out of an ‘Art jewellery’ environment his biggest achievement is being able to gain interest from a wider field making it available to audiences that are not always linked to gallery based jewellery. This was achieved through winning prestigious emerging designer awards and receiving international press coverage. He sees his vision for the future in applying everything he has learnt to developing products for established brands.
